NGEE-KIM House was built in 2006 and is named after my father and mother last name. It was my father's wish to have a house build on Ancestor's Land in Hainan. He left Hainan as a boy at the age of 9 Years old in search of a better life in 'Nanyang' and came to Singapore in the early twenty with one of the Elderly relative. Though it was his desire to have a house build in Hainan, but he faces Family's members objection who advised against it. Ironically, I was the one with the most vocal objection then, and now instrumental to Design and oversee the completion of the Building Project to accomplish My Dad's wishes. Both my Parent passed away in 2001 within a span of three months apart to each other. Then One night, while sleeping during my vacation in 'Hua Yin', Thailand. I had a dream with my father appearing in it and urging me to visit Hainan and at the same time to pay respect to my Ancestor in the Village's Shrine. When they were alive they used to go back to Hainan occasionally and even encouraged me to go along with them but I declined to go along with them except my elder siblings(2 Elder brothers, 1 Elder sister together with their wife and husband) went along. Then One day in November 2002, we decided to go as a whole family to Hainan. It was my first trip and I fell in love with the place - known as the 'Hawaii of the East'. It was an exhilarating joy and experience to find my roots and at the same time enjoying the Farm produce such as fresh vegetables, fruits and clean fresh air all around. Subsequent trips were made by me and a proposal were presented to 5 other sibling on a Building Project Plan (3.5 Storey Apartment with 9 Rooms). The plan was procrastinated for a few good years with the cost of building material escalating. It was then decided to start with a Pool money of $60,000 (each contributing seed money of $10K) to built an apartment on the Ancestor land which was left vacant till this day and were zealously looked after by my living cousin who revealed my Father's last given instruction when he was in Hainan, not to sell the land at all cost. A local Structurer Engineer charges $3K for Structurer Drawings of a build up area of 423 sq meters. I was apprehensive at first whether to engage a Local Engineer or a Chinese Engineer and whether it was money well spent - and on hindsight it was a unison decision to engage him for a proper structural building standing. Digital photographs were taken to ensure it was done according to the Engineering Design and foundation and from time to time consultation follow up with the Engineer. Finally, on the 16 Jan 2007 we are proud to plant our heritage and open the Apartment for your Recreation and Farmland stay experience in Hainan. Everything falls into place with Budget Airline Tiger Airways flying to Hainan with great cost saving. Flight time to Hainan is about 3.15 hours with no frill on board. Beverage and food at your own expenses. Tour can be customized according to your need as a wholesome family experience with selective itinerary. Home cook meal for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner can be catered for by my Cousin's Wife for a small fee to earn their keep as they are poor farmer. Your daily Water supply comes from with electrical self-automated pumped from a nearby well and the apartment is built with modern sanitary, comes with flushing system in place, a little coffee corner for making beverage drink, a shared balcony for drying your little laundry and attached Bathroom with Hot water from the Solar Heater installed to make your stay in Hainan pleasant and also to enjoy a "close to nature experience" all together. In instances where solar is unavailable due to wet weather. A back-up electrical power to heat up the Solar water tank was in-placed but may take a while longer. For those who cannot wait...a smaller water heater tank is also installed at the Rooftop bathroom for your immediate use if required or alternatively an Instant water heater is also available at the Ground-floor bathroom.
